Similar to viruses, Trojans copy, distribute and kill your data. Obviously since you would never permit these actions, Trojans do not bother to ask for your permission.

Trojans are deceptive programs which don’t take no for an answer. Any keystroke means yes to them. They are mainly designed to steal your data from your pc. But if you have antispyware guarding your pc, you need not worry.

What Are Trojans?

Basically Trojans appear quite harmless. They quietly enter your computer, either as email attachments or bundled in with other software programs. They are a kind of spyware. Spyware works by keeping track of what you do when you browse the web without you being aware of it. It is quite irritating and can cause major problems if you don’t use any antispyware program to keep your pc clean.

Trojans are one of the worst kinds of spyware that eventually destroy your data after stealing it. There are some Trojans called remote administration tools, which permit access to your computer every time you log in - and you won’t even know it. Whoever accesses your pc can easily pick up files from your system, remove or add programs, and even control your keystrokes.

How Trojans Land Into Your PC

Similar to viruses, Trojans copy, distribute and kill your data. Obviously since you would never permit these actions, Trojans do not bother to ask for your permission. The spyware installer does not care about the means used to rob your data. It is well known that there are many Internet marketers who trick you into installing certain software bundled in with Trojan spyware into your computer. They use a pop up ad to attract you, and then as if you want to install it. Whether you say yes or no is irrelevant. Even if you say no, they follow up with another pop up ad to ask if you are really sure. In spite of clicking no, your keystroke simply sets off a download into your computer without your being aware of it.

Drive by downloads are a common method for Trojan spyware to sneak in to your pc. Here is what happens - you browse a website and see a popup asking if you want to download something and the way it asks you, you sometimes end up saying yes, thinking that you need to download it to look at the web page. So when you say yes, it looks like you are allowing the download. If you say no, you are hounded by pop ups that wait for you to just click to start off the download, making it happen without your knowledge.

Everyday there are new ways being devised by spyware installers to get into your system. Get antispyware software to control this and keep your pc free of spies! by Arvind Singh

Data loss is a serious issue, which most businesses and individuals will encounter at some point in their digital lives. It can cripple businesses, ruin careers and generally cause a great deal of unnecessary stress. This article will attempt to generalize a strategy for dealing with such scenarios.

Understanding Data Loss:

Generally data loss can result from any of the following:

Hardware and system failure, human error, software corruptions, power disruptions, computer viruses, Natural disasters and intentional human malicious damage. Almost all of these situations can be avoided, or at least the risk of them occurring be reduced.

The good news is that in most cases some if not all the data is recoverable.
Think of it this way, when data loss occurs the information appears to be “lost” to the computer. This requires guidance from either data recovery software or a data recovery specialist to help “find” the data again.

Diagnosing Data Loss:

It is essential to write down the steps, which led to the data loss event. This is the simplest and most crucial action anyone can take when experiencing data loss. It is interesting to note that it is often the immediate actions taken after the data loss event, which determines the ability for the information to be recovered. So no matter how embarrassing the circumstances are note everything down!

But how will you know when data loss is going to strike? Common symptoms are a sluggishly running system, constant freezing or hanging, unusual noises (clicking or grinding sounds) coming from the hard drive or system and unusual error messages relating to software and/or drives being used.

Recovering Data Loss:

Essentially there are two methods to recovering data- via data recovery software or via a data recovery specialist. In general it is always best to first consult a data recovery specialist, however this is dependent on the value of the data which has been threatened,

Data recovery software essentially analyzes, repairs and recovers corrupted and/or lost data and assists in re-linking the information, which has caused the data to become lost. Free evaluation versions are freely available on the web and are often a good way to test the capability of a product, if you are satisfied with the job performed by the product you can purchase it and recover your data thereafter.

Professional Data recovery specialist will analyse and repair your system in a Class 100 clean room equipped with all essential technologies to ensure a stringent and controlled environment resulting in the greatest chance of full data recovery.

Preventing Data Loss:

Computer viruses are often the immediate cause of a data loss event. It is quintessential to have a trusted virus scanner and firewall operational on your system. A common misnomer is that if one does not view inappropriate sites one will not come across any problems. This is false; if your computer has a connection to the Internet there is a threat.

Backup your work! This is the simplest and tried and tested measure to ensure you never lose your data. Generally it is best to have a dedicated backup hard drive in which an exact copy of your system and data can be stored. Further to this it is also recommended that highly valued data be backed up to CD or DVD. The reason is that hard drives can fail, and it is rare to have problems with a physical medium such as CD or DVD. Finally it is important to have a form of off-site backup for in the event of a natural diaster. An easy way is to simply have another backup hard drive or DVD’s stored at home.

Conclusion:

Data loss is a frightening concept reports Dallas computer repair and a real threat to businesses and individuals who rely on their computer systems for success. The risks however can be managed through developing a detailed strategy to deal with each possibility and mishap along the way.

Dallas Computer Support

When you come to know about spyware and adware attack on you computers, many of your get confuse about what to do and sometimes you try to use your open methods that can provide harm to your pc to a great extent. What they do not do is approach professional spyware consultants and get their help to solve the problem. Internet spyware is the greatest curse to computer lovers and if not careful, can lead to destroying the computer completely, like what alcohol does to the liver. Spyware scanners come in plenty of varieties in means of brands as well as user options. This software will give options to delete it or disable it or just leave it alone.

Spyware scanners are one category of several anti spyware software. There are bound to be criticisms about scanners too like in every field of software. Some people argue that they wrongly pin point certain software to be spyware, and the user thus disagrees with the scanner and sometimes doubts its disability. But users better be safe than sorry. Remember that even wolves can be dressed in sheep’s clothing and this advanced stage of technology sometimes helps geniuses create spyware that does not look like spyware at all.

Not all spyware scanners should be downloaded from the internet, it is better to safely install it directly on the computer with an experienced hand. Some people argue that scanners only partially help the user in identifying spyware and acting as a spyware removal tool. Under these circumstances the users will probably have to get help from professionals to clean up their computer. Users literally have to be educated on this software to also understand installation, working and then also how to keep updating this on a regular level to make it more productive.

Some concerns about spyware scanners are that after detecting a problem as spyware, it does not delete it automatically till the user says so. To determine what spyware looks like when it is installed on a computer, a scanner takes a copy of the spyware and analyzes it. They develop a digital fingerprint which is then compared to files on the computer to check for any matches. Though the advance of technology in computers is much appreciated by the world, they live in constant fear of losing data and information. To remove this stress especially for large business organizations, they can spend money to provide the best anti spyware programs for the company. by: Arvind Singh

Dallas computer support

During the Black Hat 2007 Conference, a quick display of hacker technology demonstrated just how secure –or not– Wi-Fi hotspots are. In the middle of a conference presentation, session identifiers and cookies were captured from the internet browser of a random user accessing an unsecured wireless signal. The result? The helpless audience member could only look on as his Gmail inbox was suddenly presented for all to see.

Though this was eye-opening for many, it shouldn’t be. Wireless networks have been unsecure for years; in 2006 the University of Cambridge surveyed 2,500 access points of Wi-Fi networks around the University and found 46% were unencrypted (1). An overall estimate puts that number even higher – around 95% (2).

The reason behind the high rate of unsecured hot spots is simple: “People just really don’t care about Wi-Fi security” (1). The general public doesn’t view unsecure networks as a problem. People commonly offer to share their connection with friends and neighbors, and log on to public hotspots.
Despite the past apathy regarding unsecured hotspots, there is clearly a reason to be concerned. Connecting to an unsecured network is an invitation for hackers to easily snoop through people’s inbox and cookies, putting an unsuspecting user at risk for data and identity theft.
Convenience of public Wi-Fi hotspots mistakenly puts security on the back burner. Few are willing to sacrifice checking their email in the library or a coffee shop due to the potential threat of a hacker. But increasingly, hackers are creating fake access points that appear to be real, easily deceiving wireless internet users.

“If you’re connecting to a hacker’s fake Access Point and
everything you send and receive is transmitted in clear
text with no encryption…Anyone who doubts that this is a
problem should ask themselves if they would post their email
account passwords … at the bottom of this blog or go in to
an airport and yell out their user account names and passwords
as loud as they can. If the answer is no then they should
be concerned with Hotspot security” (3).

Projected Use
Current Wi-Fi stats state that wireless internet use will only increase. Wireless users are expected to grow by over 970 million users in the next three years, bringing the number of Americans with wireless subscriptions up to 87% (4). By 2010 wireless internet use will double that of cell phone use (5).

These astounding figures should create some unease. The high number of unsecure connections increases the potential for data and identity theft, as well as the loss of control of sensitive information.

Though the new attitude towards Wi-Fi has recently shifted towards concern,
the low use of encryption is still a problem. Many wireless network products have included built-in security features that offer added protection or encryption,
but customers struggle with the setup, and the features go unused.

Setting up your own network
When setting up Wi-Fi at home, follow these guidelines to increase the security of the network:

• Change the default name of your access point (that it does not read Linksys, or Netgear, for example) that does not disclose your name, company, or location
• Make sure your Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) is enabled or turned on, and check often for security upgrades
• Change the default router password
• Disable remote access via the router
• Use MAC authentication to validate only a specific list of users allowed
to access your network
Browse at your own risk
If you connect to a public access point, there are fewer options. Simply put, unsecured Wi-Fi use is a major threat. By connecting to an unsecured wireless network, you are a sitting target for any interested hacker. Information passed through unsecured web pages is accessible. Is it worth sacrificing all the information within your inbox just to check your email?

Although there are problems created by unsecured wireless networks, options are available to protect emailed documents. It’s possible to create secure, encrypted documents that are invulnerable to hackers, when accessed over a wireless network. If you plan to work on an unsecured access point, using extra security on sensitive files will assist in guarding against the vulnerabilities created by using a hotspot.

As more computer owners learn about spyware and its damaging effects on our PC’s, there is still a hidden threat that hasn’t made front-page news yet. Sure, some of us have heard of the growing ‘malware problem,’ but in order to prevent such an occurrence from affecting us, it’s vital to know the basics of this nasty, new PC predator.
• Malware is like a computer virus. They’re hard-to-find and at times, difficult to remove.
• It drastically slows down our PC speed-As a result of ad-buildup and tracking devices, your computer may run noticeably slower.
• File sharing is a huge source of harmful malware, especially in instances like illegal music downloading.
• Unintentionally visiting harmful websites masking as legitimate pages can increase your chances of picking up malware.
• Your Internet search habits can be recorded and distributed to unknown sources through the use of malware.
• If you surf to a site and notice you’re consistently being redirected, this is a symptom of malicious malware.
• Malware often tries to steal your personal information. For instance, Voice Over IP Provider Skype just reported a malware stunt whereby users were asked for log-on information on a phony sign-in screen.
In many ways, malware is like the big brother of spyware. It often bundles many unseen threats together, increasing your chances of being attacked. Installing an anti-spyware software program such as STOPzilla is one measure we can take to diminish the risk posed on our PC’s.
6StarReviews cites that STOPzilla not only protects you from spyware, it blocks phishing attempts (those browser hijacks commonly associated with malware.) Spyware Doctor provides comprehensive threat detection through their Spider Scanning Technology, a great feature.
Many spyware removal programs offer great deals for you to save: such as 15% off on Spyware Doctor products as exclusively reported by 6StarReviews.com. Though research on malware and its effects are in the early stages, protecting your PC now is an action all computer owners should make.

CALEA compliance is very important when it comes to a network monitoring service. And, individual entities are required to review the regulations and then determine how the CALEA regulations apply to their business and network monitoring services.

For example, a carrier of telecommunications may interpret the CALEA regulations in different ways and as a result comply in different ways. Some carriers will create a compliance solution for their particular network while others will buy a compliance plan on the street. This includes the necessary equipment to provide monitoring services. Third trusted parties are also a way to get a compliance solution.

Despite the method used to comply with CALEA things like lawful intercept should be discussed and understood well before dealing with network monitoring services. This is important because everyone wants to play by the rules and these regulations make sure they are followed. The commission also makes it very clear that trusted third parties are available to provide the necessary help to companies implementing CALEA however the buyer should be aware of what is going on as well as know what to look out for. Other things that will also come into play include network forensics and entities should be aware of this up front.

When using trusted third parties it is also important to understand that meeting CALEA regulations is necessary regardless of how the trusted third party behaves or how they handle the regulations. As a result trusted third parties should be reviewed before using them to make sure they are top notch and will lead the way for entities and their CALEA qualifications.

CALEA requires subscriber privacy to be protected and for CII to be delivered in a timely manner to an LEA as well as content information. Regardless of whether a trusted third party is used for this or TTP is used the Commission requires that all CALEA requirements be met. So, basically it does not matter how network monitoring services are carried out or by whom as long as they meet all the requirements set forth by the commission. This is the most important. These are the basics when it comes to network monitoring services and their compliance with CALEA. More detailed information may be found on the web regarding CALEA and the requirement set forth by the commission.

Dallas Computer Support
First of all, let’s define what I mean by online backup. Online backup is a method of offsite data storage in which files, folders, or the entire contents of a system are regularly backed up on a remote server or computer with a network connection. A number of companies provide online backup services for subscribers whose computers are connected to the Internet, automatically copying selected files to backup storage at the service provider’s data vault. Seven (7) advantages of online backup services include:

1. Automatic. Once one establishes their schedule, it is fully automated. There are no tapes to manage, staff to schedule, or vendors to coordinate for pickup and delivery of tapes. Therefore, you save time, money and virtually eliminate errors.

2. Secure. Data is stored on disk and not tape. Tape has a history of failure and it typically occurs at the most inopportune moment. In addition, most tapes are not encrypted. One can only imagine the potential ramifications to your business if customer records were accessed by someone using one of your unencrypted tapes. The story is not much better if you are unable to recover critical data at vital point in time. Online backup services can offer end-to-end encryption AES algorithms that are used both in transit as well as storage. This further ensures the security of your sensitive data. With the online backup service your sensitive data is also automatically stored offsite in a secured data center.

3. Accessible and Managed from Anywhere. “A centralized system that allows you to manage your entire systems backup and recovery requirements regardless of where they or you are located is a huge advantage to companies. This is particularly true for companies with multiple locations.” Says Jim Kandrac of VAULT400. Popular platforms and applications being managed in this way by leading providers include DB2 – System I, AS/400, iSeries, AIX, HP UX, SUN, Exchange, SQL, Windows, VMware, Linux, etc. Netware and Mac.

4. Efficient Use of Internet: Some of the better online backup services back up only the data blocks in new or changed files, resulting in significantly faster backup times and minimal. Data is also compressed before transmission. In addition they might offer bandwidth throttling. This allows one to define how much of their Internet bandwidth they want to allow to be used for this process during various time windows of the day. For example, you might limit the process to a maximum of 10% of your bandwidth during normal office hours and open it up to 80% for the balance of the day.

5. No Capital Investment: If you are like most organizations, getting approval for a large capital expenditure is a daunting task. With the Software as a Service (SaaS) approach one is basically paying a monthly fee for the service. In addition the startup can be almost immediate. Typically, a small software agent is loaded on the systems you wish to backup to a data vault and then the scheduling/backup process can begin the same day.

6. Compliance Regulations: The recent increase in government and industry specific regulations (SAS 70, Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, HIPAA, SOX and SEC|NASD) surrounding the privacy, accessibility, and retention of information are creating new challenges for backup and recovery processes. Vendors like VAULT400 are intimately familiar with these challenges. They give organizations confidence that their critical information is securely stored for as long as necessary, yet quickly accessible when needed. This immediately addresses inquiries by auditors and security/privacy concerns.

Summary: As you can see, there are some very compelling reasons for an online backup service. Remember, the goal of any online backup and recovery plan is to maintain the integrity of your systems and your business with little or no interruption in the process. When a disaster does occur, we want business to remain uninterrupted at best, or at worst get back on line in a short amount of time. With an online backup service you can quickly transfer your data to any targeted system from anywhere in the world and stay in business. Dallas Computer Support

DVD copy software gives you the ability to copy DVD’s onto other DVD’s. This software is a great item to have if you have a lot of DVD’s and want a back up copy. DVD copy software needs to be installed on to your computer and works with your DVD drive. After installation, you now have the ability to copy one DVD to another. Having back up is necessary especially if you have a large collection of DVD’s. If the original becomes scratched or damaged, you have the back up of the same one.

One very inexpensive software is called DVD Wizard Pro. Even though its cost is good, there are lots of steps in the program to actually copy an encrypted DVD. This is not for a newbie. Nevertheless, DVD Wizard Pro allows you to copy a DVD to a CD. That means you do not need a DVD burner to backup your DVD movies, instead you can use your CD burner to copy DVDs. And of course you can copy DVD to DVD using your DVD burner if you have one. Another cool feature of the software is that you can download a movie straight to the DVD. A standalone feature that distinguishes itself from most other DVD copy software is the ability to backup video game DVDs.

There is a exceedingly well-liked software labeled as 1CLICK DVD COPY, which is tremendously customer pleasant. This program makes it straightforward for anybody to copy their DVDs devoid of the unbearable annoyance of a succession of step by step course of action. 1CLICK DVD COPY, as the name entails, gets rid of the intricacies and facilitates you to complete a DVD backup job with just one snap of a button.

Currently one of the most significant benefits that you are almost certainly are concern with, is the capability to backup CSS-protected DVDs. Not every DVD backup application is produced in the same way. You have to make certain that you have the precise program for your desires. That is what hurt software similar to Roxio and Nero a great deal. They cannot copy CSS protected DVDs. Now the software that were talked about previously and an innovative program entitled DVD neXt COPY can copy those CSS protected DVDs with no difficulty. DVD neXt COPY is capable of even backing up those dented or smashed DVDs. Not just that, it backups the DVD in a faultless 1:1 DVD quality.

There are some many DVD copy software out there with several functions like converting a DVD into another format, best known as a DVD ripper. Repairing damaged DVD’s and manipulating the read speeds to change the size of the DVD movie. Most are compatible with a huge majority of DVD burners. A few even work with Blu-ray and HD discs.

Permit me to recap that you must vigilantly investigate the diverse DVD backup software. Compatibility problems are the concern. You have to establish in advance which program is attuned with your OS and DVD drive. For instance, countless software will not perform well on a Windows Vista platform.

Do not download from free websites as you may also download viruses or spyware onto your computer. Make sure to check that your download says that is has been checked for viruses and spyware. The easiest and safest way to get DVD copy software is to buy the software instead of purchasing it through the download. You will have the software for backup as well. http://3tpro.com - Dallas Computer Support

Dallas Computer Support

When you’ve decided that your computer needs more memory to work better for you, you might decide to save money by installing the memory yourself. This is a wise decision and in many cases, it’s also quite simple for a home user to do on their own. All you need to do is follow these three steps to make sure the installation goes smoothly and no computers are harmed in the process.

Step One: Find Out What You Can Install

Many of us have grand ideas of adding many GB to our hard drives, but the truth is that our computer may not be able to handle that kind of power. If you end up installing the wrong amount of memory, you might permanently damage your computer as well as be stuck with extra memory that can not be returned to the retailer.

To determine the amount of memory you can install on your PC, you will want to go to the My Computer folder on your main screen. Here, you will find an icon that you should right click. At that point, you will get a screen that says something like System Information (it depends on the operating system you have). Here, there will be some numbers associated with your computer. You should be able to find the overall memory storage count in this box. If it’s higher than what you currently have on your hard drive, this means you have ‘room’ to install more memory.

If the number is not higher, you might want to call Dallas computer support as there may be another place where you should be looking for the memory total. Some computers require that you look elsewhere.

When you do find this number, you will want to write down the different between the two numbers - that’s the memory you can install.

Step Two: Talk to Dallas computer support or Go to their Website

Here, you will be able to find out if you need to buy only one memory stick or if you need to buy two memory sticks for your computer. Have your computer’s service tag written down next to the phone or the computer’s model number on hand. The help desk will then be able to look up the specifications for your specific system and tell you what you can and can not do.

If you don’t want to do this, you can always open up your computer to find out what you need to buy. Turn off your computer and everything that’s plugged into the computer. Then, make sure to remove the power strip’s plug from the outlet as well. Taking the tower and turning it around carefully, you will need to look for the way to open up this part of your computer - refer to your computer’s operating manual for specific details.

When you open up the tower, you will see a few wires and way in the back a few slots where there are pieces of memory chips. Those that are sticking out are the ones that are already filled. You should count to see how many there are empty, if any. If there are two, and you have the ability to put in 2GB of memory in your computer, you will actually need to buy two sticks of memory that are 1GB each.

You will be taking out the old memory sticks in the process and it’s essential that you keep the slots even in order for the memory to work correctly.

Step Three: Installing the Easy Way

By following the instructions that come with your memory sticks, you will be able to install the memory quickly and easily. Here are some tips:

Turn everything off

Unplug everything from the outlet

Press the power button again to discharge any remaining electricity

After opening up the tower, touch a piece of metal in the tower to discharge any static electricity from your hands

Take out the memory from the package without getting any finger oils on it - touch it only on the sides if you must

Take out the old memory by carefully pulling the tabs away from the edges (see your computer for specific instructions)

Place the memory into the slots until you hear a click. The tabs should close on their own without your help

Replace the tower pieces and plug the system back in

If you have done everything right, your computer should start right back up the way it did before you installed the memory.

If you hear beeping when you turn on your computer, turn everything off again and see if the memory sticks area pushed all the way into their slots.

If you still get error messages, you will want to call your computer’s help desk for further guidance.

Making the right choice in a computer display or monitor is an important part of involving yourself in today’s web-browsing and multi-media technology. Right now, you are viewing this in a computer monitor (unless you’ve had someone print it for you and you’re reading it on paper because your monitor made it completely unreadable) and how it appears to you depends entirely on the quality of your display.

Monitors

What are the differences between an LCD screen and CRT monitors?

LCD screens are the current trendy looking; flat screen displays that are now sold with practically all bundles, whereas CRT screens are bulky older style technology. Apart from the space saving that the flat screen LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) offers, it also generates very little heat and radiation, uses considerably less power and is less reflective. LCD screens present excellent image quality. CRT (Cathode Ray Tube) monitors on the other hand, occupy a lot more space on your desktop, do generate heat and use more power and usually have a curved screen (although flat screen CRT monitors are available).

From a display point of view, the major difference between the two lies in how the image is created, and the resolution that the screen can accommodate. Each pixel in a LCD screen is produced by a tiny cell containing a layer of liquid crystals that bend light in response to electric energy. While they can be clearer than CRT screens, they are limited by only one optimal resolution. Setting the screen at a higher than optimal resolution reduces the overall screen image, and at a lower one causes the screen image to appear “pixelated”.

A CRT screen creates its image through cathode ray emissions striking the phosphorous lining on the back of the tube glass. It offers more detail in images and color at higher resolutions.

One other difference to note is the display size. Display size is the diagonal measurement across the screen. A 17 inch (these have not been metricated yet) display is measured from one corner diagonally to its opposite. In a LCD display, this covers the entire framed display, but in a CRT monitor, the display image is usually 8%-10% smaller than the framed screen area, which means a 17″ CRT monitor has to have a bigger framed screen than a LCD.

Compatibility

There are possibly two issues of compatibility to consider. One is the compatibility of the screen with your workspace and the work you want it to do. If you have a small space, then the slim features of the LCD will be a major part of your decision. It is better to buy an all-digital screen rather than one that plugs into a standard video card (which is analogue) and then translate an analogue signal to digital. An all-digital display will offer brighter images. Compatibility with your computer’s video card is another consideration. You need to be sure that the video card you have in your computer will provide the screen resolution your require from your monitor and match the refresh rate.

Technical considerations

Dot Pitch. This is the distance between the same color dots in any direction on a display. A smaller dot pitch enables easier reading of characters and better color clarity. The maximum dot pitch you should consider for high quality graphics and text is .28 for a 17″ monitor and .31 for a 21″ monitor.

Screen resolution. The number of pixels a screen displays determines the resolution. A resolution of 1024 x 768 has 1024 pixels in the horizontal plane, and 768 in the vertical. The higher the resolution, the more detail is displayed. Be sure that your video card matches the resolution you require.

Refresh rate. This is the frequency at which the screen image is being refreshed to avoid flicker. A vertical refresh rate of 75 HZ (cycles per second) delivers a flicker-free environment and will reduce eyestrain and fatigue.

Cost

Of course it all comes down to what you can afford. But a good quality display is a good investment in your work environment. CRT monitors can be bought very cheaply. Digital LCDs can become very expensive. Manufacturers are now offering displays with inbuilt television receivers and speaker systems than can enhance your overall environment and improve the flexibility of your purchase. Ultimately, it depends on what you want to see on your desk as much as what you want to see on your monitor. by Andrew Gates

What is Linux?

Linux is an operating system, like Microsoft Windows, MacOS, or Unix. It was created as a hobby by Linus Torvalds, a student at the University of Helsinki in Finland. What most people don’t know about Linux is that its source code is available to anyone. The Linux source code is called the kernel and it is the base of the Linux operating system. Because the source code or kernel is free, it has enabled hundreds of companies and individuals to release their own operating systems based on the Linux system. These operating systems or formats are often referred to as Linux distributions.

Each distribution has its own set of features and functionality that makes it unique. While Linux is generally considered free-ware and people associate that with no cost, that is not always the case. Some distributions are available for download for free and others are available on CD or floppy disk and have a small charge associated with them. You can find a list of distributions at http://www.linux.org/ and a list of applications at http://www.Linux.org/apps/

Because if the adaptability of Linux it has been embraced and supported by a number of operating systems and software programs. For example, IBM, Hewlett-Packard and other giants of the computing world have embraced Linux and support its ongoing development and openoffice.org and Mozilla run on Linux. US retailing giant Wal-Mart began selling Linux systems back in 2002 - if Wal-Mart isn’t mainstream, nothing is.

What are the benefits of Linux?

Many people fear that Linux is going to be difficult to work with or that it will be difficult to find software that will run on Linux however Linux is a very standard operating system, compatible with just about any software you need.

Beyond being a standard operating system, Linux supports open source software which makes it a very economical operating system, especially if you program your own software. It offers many free or low cost applications which include, basic desktop applications like web browsers, email programs, word processing programs, spreadsheets, graphics programs, and file managers.

Linux can easily operate as a central server for your business. With Linux, you can serve your own web pages up for public consumption and handle your own email.

Linux doesn’t require top of the line hardware though many recommend you have at least 256 MB of RAM and at least 4 GB of space in your hard drive.

Linux is considered to be extremely stable and doesn’t need to be rebooted periodically to maintain performance levels. Think about the last time you sat at your computer and it froze. Not fun, right? That doesn’t happen with Linux if it is configured correctly.

Linux isn’t going to be replaced anytime soon and when bugs are found in the system, a developer are quickly on the job and often times a solution is offered within a matter of hours, not months or years like many other operating systems.

Linux is also fast and can handle a number of tasks at the same time.

Linux also claims to be one of the most secure operating systems isn’t plagued with the viruses that other operating systems generally deal with.

Linux is free from having to upgrade it or deal with proprietary file formats and licensing fees. You don’t have to register it due to its open source format.

You can have both Linux and windows on your computer. (You’ll have to partition them on your hard drive and you can only boot them one at a time.)

Drawbacks of Linux

There is no 1800 customer service number to call. However, most distributions offer a support number or email to call if you find a bug. They also generally come with installation instructions.

You cannot run applications for MS windows on Linux. However, there are Linux emulators or applications that enable you to run some windows applications on your Linux system. They operate like a translator. Some of these ‘translation or emulator’ products are free and others are available for a price.

Linux is not able to run some advanced financial applications or reproduce some proprietary multimedia formats.

Tips and Advice:

Choose a popular distribution has a large developer community. A large developer community means that you’ll find the programs that you need easily and you will be able to install them with the same ease. The more well-known distributions have prepared programs in ‘packages’ that are easy to install. On top of this, there are tools designed especially for a particular distribution to manage these packages to make sure that programs run correctly right away. The website Distrowatch.com maintains a comprehensive list of the most popular distributions.

Get the latest version of your chosen distribution. The newer the Linux distribution version, the better the hardware support. The number of glitches you’ll get in the installation process decreases with the newness of the version of Linux you choose.

Consider paying for your Linux distribution. It is true that you can get a full-featured Linux operating system free of charge by downloading it from any number of sources. This is an excellent alternative to an operating system like Windows, which either comes pre-loaded with a newly purchased computer (which gets figured into the cost), is bought separately or copied ‘illegally’. In most people’s experience, the popular Linux distributions are easy to install. However, if you do run into some glitch (normally hardware related), you may have a frustrating experience. Although there are a number of excellent Linux support forums out there, personalized advice on your particular problem may be hard to find.

Use an appropriate computer. if you want to use Linux to do the same things that you would with Windows XP or Mac OS X, then you’ll need the newest computer you can get your hands on. Avoiding ‘elite’ video cards and new, exotic hardware will also work in your favor because you won’t have to deal with hardware support which may be inferior to hardware support from other operating systems.

Bottom Line:

Linux is a fantastic and powerful operating system that can handle most or all of your operating needs. It is secure, fast, reliable, and generally extremely cost effective. When purchased or obtained through a reliable distributor and installed and configured correctly there are virtually no drawbacks to running Linux. Additionally, you don’t have to give up your windows if you don’t want to.

Dallas computer support

We’re currently tracking an issue where Windows Server 2003 SP2 may fail to install for some Automatic Update clients. There is a limitation in the database that Automatic Updates uses to track hotfix and service pack installations that may result in AU being unable to apply new patches if a very large number of fixes have been installed (>100). This number is reset when a service pack is applied, so it is relatively hard to reach this threshold unless you are installing individual updates and have not upgraded to SP1. That said, there are a certain number of SBS customers installed from the original 2003 media (i.e. pre-SP1 media), who may fall in to this category.

You can also see this error if you try to manually install SP2 manually. In this case, you will receive the following pop-up error:

Failed to install catalog files.

The main symptom you will see in this case is that Automatic Updates/Windows Update/Microsoft Update will fail and you will see an error similar to the one below logged in svcpack.log:

960.484: InstallSingleCatalogFile: MyInstallCatalog failed for Tmp.0.ntprint.cat; error=0xfffffbfe.

There may be other issues that cause automatic updates to fail. Unless you see the 0xfffffbfe error, you are dealing with another issue. These are documented in the following articles:

925931 You may be unable to apply more updates at a certain point on a Windows Server 2003-based computer

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;925931

822798 You cannot install some updates or programs

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;822798

Manual Method

To resolve this issue and allow SP2 to install, either use the manual steps below, or, alternatively, use the batch file below:

1. Make a full backup of your system.
2. Click on Start, click on Administrative Tools, Click on Services. Right-click on Cryptographic Services and choose “Stop”.
3. Open Explorer and browse to C:\WINDOWS\system32\CatRoot\{F750E6C3-38EE-11D1-85E5-00C04FC295EE}
4. Create a temporary folder called “backup” under CatRoot
5. Move all KB*.cat, Q*.* and TMP*.cat files to C:\WINDOWS\system32\CatRoot\backup. DO NOT DELETE THEM!
6. If you moved KB912354.CAT, copy it back to C:\WINDOWS\system32\CatRoot\{F750E6C3-38EE-11D1-85E5-00C04FC295EE} folder. (This step is very important to prevent a potential error with SBS licensing. However, if the KB912354.cat file does not exist, go to step 7. The software update in KB 912354 is included in Windows Server 2003 SP2.)
7. Rename the C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CATROOT2\ folder to CATROOT2.old. Create a blank folder named CATROOT2.
* NOTE: Make sure you rename CATROOT2 not CATROOT (without the 2).
* Again, make sure rename this folder, do not delete it.
8. Start Cryptographic Services from Services
9. Start the install of SP2.

Dallas Computer Support

Printing with inkjets can cost almost ten times as much as with a laser printer. But do you really need a laser printer? This article will bring out the facts so that you can make an informed decision. Print quality is exceptional in both cases so what should you as a consumer be looking for?

At first glance it looks as though the inkjet is by far the lowest cost printer, however when you factor in the cost of ink it turns out that the laser wins hands down. Most ink cartridges result in a higher cost per page figure when compared to laser toner. Cheaper models typically use a cartridge with less ink than those for more expensive inkjets, thus the more expensive models are cheaper in the long run. Others use a 3-in-1 cartridge that requires users to replace the entire cartridge even when only one color is empty.

When evaluating your printer purchase, it is important to evaluate the number of users, how the device will be used, desired print speed, need for color, cost of the printer vs. cost of the supplies and the warranty. Color laser printers have come way down in price, but they still cost more than inkjet printers. Inkjet printers do a superior job with photographic images. Laser printers do better with text. Both can do an excellent job with non-photographic graphics. But right now there are some laser printers that print black for under $100.00. There are color laser 3 in1 printers for around $400.00 so if you do more than 50 pages per day these might be a good bet.

It may be fun but printing color photos can be very expensive for instance many times you can get only 8 or 10 full-page photos. If the cartridge costs 30 to $40.00 that means it costs 3 to 4 dollars per page. It pays to try refills or compatible cartridges because you can usually cut you costs by 50 to 75 %. It’s important to realize that a typical inkjet printer may put out 200 pages per cartridge doing text printing. The laser may put out 2500 to 8000 pages or more. While the initial cost of the toner cartridges may be more in the long run they The cost per page is far less.

What it all boils down to is if you’re the kind of person who prints something once a week a cheap inkjet is probably the best for you. But if you print daily or have a business or home business you probably should take a serious look at lasers.

In the last 15 years I’ve seen printers go from printing clearly visible dots to inexpensive printers that can print lab quality photos. While the printers are cheaply made the print quality is truly amazing. So no matter what you choose you can buy for hundreds what would have cost you thousands 10 years ago. Dallas Computer Support

Dallas Computer Repair - In my years as a teacher, organization was something that was lost on me. I was the teacher with stacks of papers on her desk, boxes of papers behind her desk (fondly called the “Fire Hazard”), and stuff piled on the tables around. Since leaving that profession, and entering the world of business, I have learned that organization is my friend. Piles drive me nuts and boxes with papers are no longer around because I discovered why filing cabinets are there- and to my amazement, it is not decoration. One important place that many people don’t think about having organized is their computer desktop.Have you ever needed to quickly pull up that file on your computer, but it takes you forever to find it because of the millions of files cluttering your desktop (computer desktop that is)? My husband is a neat freak. He can’t stand the kitchen to be a mess, clothes to be on the floor, and my daughter’s toys that are over running our house is driving him crazy. Yet it completely amazes me that his computer desktop is full of files. His desktop drives ME crazy! I have gotten the art of organizing my desktop down, and now I would like to share my strategy with you for getting your desktop organized so that next time a client calls, you know exactly where their file is!

1. Have as few folders on your desktop as possible. Break them into main categories. I use my computer for personal and business, so I have 5 folder’s on my desktop. “Patty’s” all my personal files go in there. “Patty’s Backup” for my husband to know what I want him to back up each week. “Patty’s Quicken” you guessed it-for my bookkeeping files. “Julie’s Shortcut” a client’s folder that I want quick access to as I am currently working on a project for her. “VA” my most important folder-my business folder. The rest of the tips will be how to break up your main category folders.

2. Put all the files on your desktop into one of your main categories-there should be NO FILES ON YOUR DESKTOP!!! Only folders.

3. Inside your desktop folders, break the items into categories, and create a folder for each category. Examples-Clients, Paperwork, Projects, Advertisement, Subcontractors-to name a few.

4. Then go through your main folder and put each file into the category they best fit.

5. Now, open up those category folders-do you still see a ton of files? Break them into subfolders. For example-Clients- Make a folder for each client so their information is easily accessible.

6. Still need to break it down-Take each clients folders, and create sub folders-paperwork, projects, invoices, etc.

Continue with this process until every file belongs to a folder, and every folder is easy to navigate. The goal is when you open a folder-you know immediately what is in it. You will find that it is much easer to get to work because you are not distracted by all the items on your desktop, and when that client calls, you do not spend 5 minutes hunting for the file you need to answer his/her question. Take time to get one of the most important pieces of equipment in your office organized so that your office runs even more efficiently. by Patty Benton Dallas ComputerRepair

This thread will walk you through the process of tethering a jailbroken iPhone to the PC running Windows XP in order to use your phone’s EDGE (or data connection) to surf the internet through the PC. While this process does work, it is not without its headaches.

Setting up the proxy through Firefox:
1. Tools > Options then Advanced TAB at the top

You will need to setup the http proxy to forward to 192.168.1.1 Port 8080.

2. Configuring the Ad-Hoc Network on the PC (XP):

1. Go to Start –> Settings –> Network Connections.
2. Right click on wireless network connection and select properties.

3. Under the general tab, highlight Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click properties.

4. You need to manually input the computer’s IP address as: 192.168.1.2 and the subnet mask as: 255.255.255.0 . Leave the rest blank and select OK.

5. Now at the top of the window, go to Wireless Networks.

6. Although mine is currently only displaying one preferred network (iPhone), you need to force your computer to only see ad-hoc networks. Otherwise, any preferred network (infrastructure mode) will get selected over the ad-hoc network. You force the computer into ad-hoc only mode by selecting advanced –> then clicking on the computer-to-computer networks only.

7. Now it’s time to setup the ad-hoc network. Click add and you should see this window come up:

8. Type in an SSID (I used iPhone) and select whether or not your want encryption. I would recommend encryption in case you accidentally leave this network setup – your computer will continue to broadcast the network. Additionally, it’s just a good idea to secure your network. I used WEP (even if it is weak encryption) with a five character password. Ensure you select that this is an ad hoc network.

9. Now select the connection tab and click connect when in range.

10. Ok, now you have successfully setup your ad-hoc (on the computer), assigned the PC the IP 192.168.1.2 . Now we need to setup the iPhone.

== Setting up the iPhone to tether:

1. This goes without saying, but you need to have a jailbroken iPhone for any of this to work. I am currently running firmware version 1.1.4 and I used ZiPhone to crack the phone (i.e. – put installer.app on the phone). Additionally, you will want to select auto-lock never under Settings –> General (as this will kill your internet connect if the iPhone goes to sleep).

2. Open Installer.app and click the install button on the bottom.
3. Select Tinyproxy and install the software.

4. Go to settings –> Wi-Fi and then select your ad-hoc network (it should be displayed).

5. Although it may say it is joined, you must select the blue arrow and manually assign an IP address. For the phone, this will be 192.168.1.1 and subnet 255.255.255.0

6. That’s it! Assuming that you setup your wireless correctly and your iPhone according to these directions, you should notice that the wireless icon on the eeePC finally shows that a connection has been made. Open Firefox and test out your connection.

Dallas computer support - The U.S. Government’s National Information Assurance Glossary defines Information Security as: Protection of information systems against unauthorized access to or modification of information, whether in storage, processing or transit, and against the denial of service to authorized users or the provision of service to unauthorized users, including those measures necessary to detect, document, and counter such threats. But in this article will be same information about one of the unauthorized access types - internet attacks! That’s makes more easily understand how these attacks work and click why so important get there own information security strategy!

Denial of service In this attack an attacker tries to do target

computer unable to provide the normal gamut of services. That attacker can do sending more information to a target computer than a computer is capable of processing. In this incident a user or organization is deprived of the services of a resource what they would normally expect to have. In this case costs of this attack are a great deal of time and money. A denial of service attack is a type of security attack to a computer system that does not usually result in the theft of information or other security loss.

Trojan Horse

Trojan horses are programs that pretend to be legitimate software, but actually carry out hidden, harmful functions. An attacker place this software on the target computer using web site, e-mail, embedded within another software package, or force-installed through the compromise of another service running. Trojans are executable programs, which mean that when you open the file, it will perform some action(s). These actions can be with different nature. The most common are of two types:

The first is a remote control program that would allow the attacker to act as if he were in front of the machine.
The second is a program that would allow a remote attacker to execute specific commands from the target machine.
Both types take a control over target computer and often use that to make denial of service of other target computer.

Buffer Overflow

An attacker sends a specific series of characters (text) to a service that will cause the service to act outside it’s normal operating parameters. These attacks can be considered two parts, the overflow itself, and the command to execute. The overflow part contains the specific series of characters that will cause the service to act abnormally, but other contains commands. These commands can be something simple like causing computer to crash, or something complex like installing a trojan. Buffer overflows are usually the preferred method of compromising a web server.

Port Scan

A port scanner is a tool that allows an individual to list the ports on a computer that are listening (available / open). Using a port scanner is usually the first step in determining how to compromise a system, as an attacker needs to know what the potential vulnerabilities of a system are before trying to execute them. Dallas computer support

Dallas Computer Support - ActiveX controls are written in VBScript and are actually a set of rules that Internet browsers can understand and interpret the way ActiveX components are to be displayed on the screen. This greatly enhances the browser’s ability to display images and video. At the outset of understanding the link between ActiveX Controls and Registry cleaner, let us try to understand what ActiveX actually is and how it is meant to help in the running of the computer. Contrary to the belief of many computer amateurs, ActiveX is not a programming language but sets of rules that guide the way applications run on windows. Notice, we said ‘applications’ not ‘programs’. This is because all programs that run on Windows operating system are called ‘applications’. You may have come across some web sites that ask you to download ActiveX controls in order for some of their downloadable programs to run. Downloading these controls enters them in the Registry of the system. After a period, the system does not actually need these controls but they are there taking up space and slowing down the system. These controls need to be cleaned out from the registry and here is where the registry cleaner comes in.

How Do ActiveX Controls Work?

It is not as easy as it may sound however; let’s endeavor to explain. When the browser loads a web page that has embedded ActiveX components, the browser uses the ‘CLASSID’ information on the Web page’s ‘OBJECT’ statement to ascertain if the control is already present on your system. If not, the browser uses the ‘CODEBASE’ information to download the control and install it. Once you are done with the download it lodges in the system registry. It is not actually needed here but is there all the same. Downloading a free registry cleaner to clean the registry is one way to solve this problem of clogging up the registry with unwanted controls.

So How Safe Are ActiveX Controls

Many programmers started embedding ActiveX components in their programs and web pages. It must be remembered that ActiveX controls are capable of doing anything a normal Visual Basic program can. In other words they can seem to be linking to some program but may be malicious software. A Registry cleaner will help remove the installation from the registry. Because you never know what the ActiveX control has been programmed to do.

Microsoft Helps Out With Security Measures

Microsoft has provided some measure of security for identifiable ActiveX controls. This is achieved through a signature scheme. Designers of ActiveX controls digitally sign the ActiveX controls they author. When the user accesses a web page that uses that particular control, the user’s browser can verify the person that has signed it wrote the control. Even then, it is best to use a registry cleaner from time to time to ensure the safety and efficiency of your computer.by Arvind Singh - Dallas Computer Support

Dallas Computer Support-There are a lot of storage devices used to store data but the most common used ones are the CDs, DVDs, memory cards, memory sticks and undoubtedly the hard drives. All these storage devices have on major flaw in common, they are not infallible and this means that the data stored on them can be lost or damaged through a number of unforeseen failures. Fortunately, there are companies that employ data recovery specialists that can recover your data by using special techniques, software and tools. Data recovery can sometimes be performed by the user of the damaged device by using software but there is a high risk of failure that can result in permanently erased data or damaged storage devices. There are a number of conditions that can cause a storage device failure and they include heat, water, impacts and power interruptions. Other causes can be viruses.

Heat damage will usually be caused by fire but in the case of electronic devices and storage media, overheated equipment is the cause in most cases. For instance, in room with an ambient temperature that is too high, the air cushion thickness will be reduced by the air pressure. The hard drive heads might touch the recording plate and data will be damaged or lost.

In the case of hard drives, this kind of damage can also be caused by physical shocks or high vibration levels.

Most drives, but not all, have a seal that goes around the sides of the drive. If the seal is broken, the drive if prone to environmental contamination. The air is not very clean and with a damaged seal, particles from the air can grind the recording plate generating corruption or lost data.

If a hard drive is wet, water damage can occur even if it is turned off. Water is corrosive and will damage the metals found inside the hard drive generating microscopic pitting.

Data recovery specialists have both the required skills and the resources to perform a successful data recovery operation. This ensures a good chance that if you experience any data loss you can recover the data, be it sentimental data or business related information. The best advice is to keep a backup of the data that is important to you, this way you can avoid the expense of data recovery. If a backup is not available, expert services provided by data recovery specialists is a must. by Dalvin Rumsey - Dallas Computer Support

Dallas computer support- Some things in life are just unwanted, but still, can happen to anyone of us. A thing like this is loosing your data from your laptop hard drive, we don’t want it, but can happen. All our important information got wiped out in a second, all of it. You can go to your tech friend or even to a computer store to ask what you can do about it but you will probably receive an answer that you can’t do anything with it.We can prevent this by backing up all our information from the laptop hard drive in time but sometimes we just don’t think about it and the worst will happen. We know it’s our fault for not backing up the files. The good news is that now, we can investigate and research some data recovery companies and ask them for help.

The process for data recovery from laptop hard drives is usually more succesful then normal desktop hard drives, that’s good news also. This is because laptop hard drives were always built for mobility and are designed in such way to prevent severe hard drive crashes. The heads on a laptop hard drive are not likely to touch the platters, this can happen mostly on normal desktop hard drives. Because of this, the process of data recovery from laptop hard drives has a higher success rate compared with desktop hard drives.

Even if it has a higher success rate, the process is still difficult and expensive if done by an individual. If you would think about opening it up you will have to make sure to open it in a class 100 clean room. Bad news is that such a room costs about $50000 - $70000. Your best pick is to find a company that can handle the process for you for a cost.

Dallas data recovery

If you don’t want to remove the hard drive from the laptop yourself, most companies will do this for you with no extra cost, you will be able to send them the full system. Also, most companies will not charge you if they will not be able to recover your data after the data recovery process.

Any type of data lost is something nobody needs or want, if data lost happen for your laptop hard drive is good to know that the odds are in your favor. Take some time to research for a good company and with some money you will be able to get your data back soon. After this, make sure to always back up all your data. by Dalvin Rumsey - Dallas computer repair

Dallas Computer Repair

A user profile is a set of files and folders that contain information about user-specific configuration settings such as customized desktop, personalized application settings, network and printer connection settings, display settings, and other specified settings. Microsoft Windows XP supports the following types of profiles:

Local user profile: A local user profile is a computer-based record about a specific user. It is created automatically on the computer’s local hard disk the first time when the user logs on to a computer. A local user profile is specific to the computer on which it is created. Both Windows XP Home Edition and Windows XP Professional operating systems support the local user profile. In Windows XP, a local user profile is stored in the Documents and Settings folder hierarchy on the system root drive. Whenever a user initially logs on to a computer running Windows XP, Windows creates the user-specific folder in the Documents and Settings folder. Each user profile contains several files and folders that store configuration information including the following:

1. Application Data: This folder is hidden by default and stores the user-specific application configuration information.

2. Cookies: A cookie is a small text file that is created by websites to store the user-specific information and preferences on a local computer.

3. Desktop: This folder stores files, folders, and shortcuts that are placed on a Windows XP desktop.

4. Favorites: This folder stores shortcuts to locations added to the Favorites list by a user in Windows Explorer or Internet Explorer.

5. My Documents: This folder stores documents and other user data.

6. My Recent Documents: This folder contains shortcuts to recently accessed documents and folders. A user can also access such documents from the Start Menu.

7. NTUSER.DAT: This file stores the information about changes made to Windows Explorer, taskbar, user-specific Control Panel, Accessories, and Internet Explorer settings.

8. NTUSER.DAT.LOG: It is a log file that provides help in the recovery of the NTUSER.DAT file when a computer crashes.

9. Templates: This folder is hidden by default and contains the template items created by the user applications. These items are used automatically when a user creates a new document.

10. Printhood: This folder contains the shortcuts to printer folder items.

11. NetHood: This folder contains shortcuts created by the Add Network Place option in My Network Places.

Built-in user profiles: In addition to the user-specific profile, Windows creates two built-in local user profiles at the time of installation:

1. Default User Profile: This profile works as a template to create all new profiles on the computer. A newly logged on user receives a copy of this profile as his or her personal user profile. The default user profile can also be customized in several ways and is stored in the \Documents and Settings\Default User folder, which is hidden by default. A user has to configure the Folder options appropriately to view the Default User folder.

2. All Users profile: The All Users profile contains settings that apply to each user who logs on to the computer. The All Users profile is stored in the \Documents and Settings\All Users folder. The All Users folder contains settings that are common for all the other profiles on the computer. The settings in the All Users folder are merged with the profile of the current user by Windows during the current logon session. If an administrator wants to apply a common setting for every user who logs on to the computer, then the most appropriate way for him is to modify the All Users profile. As an administrator, a user can directly edit the All Users profile to add or remove items as per his requirement.

Roaming profile: Before describing the roaming user profile, it is necessary to understand the meaning of a network client and the server. In a networked environment, a client computer can be defined as a computer that uses the shared network resources provided by another computer. A computer that provides the shared resources to all the client computers on a network is referred to as a server. A user who logs on to the network from different computers at different times is called a roaming user. The roaming profile is a user profile that is stored in a shared folder on a network server and is accessible by any of the clients on the network. When a user logs on to any of the computers in a network, the roaming user profile is downloaded to that computer from the network server. The roaming profile is automatically updated both locally as well as on the server when the user logs off.

Mandatory profile: A mandatory profile is a type of roaming profile that is pre-configured and cannot be modified permanently by a user. Mandatory profiles are generally used to restrict users from making permanent changes to their profiles. Any changes to the mandatory profiles remain till the current session lasts. The original settings are automatically restored as soon as the user logs on again. Mandatory profiles decrease the administrative overhead of managing desktop systems to a great extent. They can be implemented in two ways:

An administrator can either rename the file called NTUSER.DAT to NTUSER.MAN or he can append .MAN to the end of the name of the Roaming User Profile folder. The first option allows users to log on using a locally cached copy of the profile if the network is unavailable and the second approach forbids logging on unless the roaming user profile is accessible on the network. Such profiles are modifiable only by the system administrators and are supported by only the Windows XP Professional operating system.

An administrator or a user with the administrative privilege can manage the user profiles from the System Properties dialog box, which is opened by running Start menu > Control Panel > Systems. An administrator can copy a user profile, delete user profiles stored on the local computer, and create a roaming user profile by copying a local user’s profile to a network file share. Dallas Computer Repair

Microsoft announced that 2008 was the year when they were going to launch one of the best Windows Server operating systems ever. They’ve kept their word, promising to deliver increased performance and advanced features, announcing February to be the month when Windows Server 2008 will be released. In the meantime, the Internet is filled with information Dallas computer support has noticed regarding the all-new Windows Server 2008 and it seems that there are more surprises to come in the future.

Microsoft is a name that can be easily associated with high-quality and superior customer services. They decided to launch the Windows Server 2008 along with other two long-expected applications: Visual Studio and SQL Server. They plan to impress everyone with this original operating system, having advanced features for the web and implementing the latest virtualization technologies. There are many companies and enterprises out there interested in using new generation server infrastructure; for them, the Windows Server 2008 is a must, especially since it was significantly improved with virtualization instruments, web applications and security tools.

Experts working for Microsoft know very well the demands of the market regarding such applications; in consequence, they used the data obtained after careful analysis to provide new tools like Internet Info Services 7, Windows Server Manager and Windows Power Shell. These features provided with the Windows Server 2008 not only represent recent technologies but they permit increased server control, not to mention the possibility to handle all management strategies much more easily. Other attractive characteristics of the fresh Windows Server 2008 refer to the Network Access Protection and Read-only domain controller. These represent two very important advantages brought by the Windows Server 2008 Consulting, increasing the control over the entire operating system and allowing for business operations to develop much more easily.

Windows Server 2008 Consulting is not for everyone. It is an operating system released by Microsoft to powerful names in the business field. They need to operate and use such applications, compatible with various web interfaces and also with other programs. And probably one of the most important features is the one of task management, the platform provided by Windows Server 2008 Consulting being ideal for such things. Web services can be easily integrated and the security improvements are more than useful. As for the Internet Info Services 7, they constitute of a powerful platform connecting people worldwide. Businessmen from all over the world can connect in real time, sharing and exchanging information, visualizing and taking decisions.

As there are many opinions about the Windows Server 2008 Consulting applications, it may be hard to figure out why anyone should choose it. Still, if we come to think about the possibility of integrating multiple operating systems such as Windows or Linux into one single server, we tend to vote for the recent innovation from Microsoft. Maybe they do have something to say and maybe they are right when they say their programs are the best.

Virtualization is not a concept invented by Microsoft but they’ve certainly made it more popular. The integrated operating system is flexible and easy to use; it can be adapted to one’s business demands, providing an active datacenter. The aspect of virtualization is best reflected by applications such as Terminal Services Gateway and Terminal Service Remote applications; one certainly has to do extensive research in order to understand why Windows Server 2008 is considered so far advanced.

No matter the way you see or perceive Windows Server 2008, it still is an incredible innovation bearing the Microsoft trademark. Easy to use, with plenty of advanced features and increased security, it can improve various aspects regarding the business world, increasing productivity and efficiency. by Amelie Mag - Dallas Computer Support
